On the unit we
tested, it seemed that the handle of the comb opener started to slip a
little bit when it had a comb loaded on the opener. The machine seems
to function a lot better when the handle is tight. We were actually
able to tighten it as needed, so it is a correctable issue. If you have
this problem you will need to tighten the knob attached to the handle
of the opener. The 14″ length is pretty versatile
and will get you through the vast majority of binding projects. You
should know, however, that the machine can get unwieldy if you need to
open combs that have more than twenty four loops. For one thing, one of
the handles is in the way. All that means is that if you are binding
longer books, you will have to insert the last few loops manually. Not
a huge deal for a small project, but it could get tedious for a larger
