The nature of last minute ski holidays means you

The nature of last minute ski holidays means you might not have time to make a packing list. We’ve done all the hard work so you won’t forget a thing.

With the many affordable last minute ski holidays available, it’s possible to be simply daydreaming about snow-covered slopes on a Wednesday and find yourself on a flight to the French Alps by Friday afternoon! But in the haste and excitement of getting away,Filling Machine  it’s all too easy to neglect to pack some vital items – and finding out you’ve forgotten your very expensive ski socks just as you’re about to pull on your boots to hit the piste is not the ideal scenario.

Replacing stuff you need while you’re at a ski resort can prove highly inconvenient, not to mention very expensive – possibly even negating the savings you’ve made on your last minute ski holidays. To ensure you don’t forget a thing, we’ve compiled a quick packing list that covers all the basics as well as a few luxuries you’ll be thankful for. You’re welcome!

Essential Travel Basics

Check this section, check it twice, and then check it again. Even the best-laid travel plans can turn to disaster if you leave home without:

Insurance documentation (you remembered insurance, right?)
Passport, flight/train tickets, itinerary (including any onward transfers)
Accommodation vouchers or details
Map (or GPS) and drivers’ licence, if you’re getting a rental car

Essential Clothing

A disclaimer: this section doesn’t claim to be an online fashion stylist – how good you look is entirely down to you! These are the apparel basics you’ll need to stay comfortable and warm, so those floral salopettes tucked away in the back of your wardrobe are optional extras in addition to:

Good quality waterproof ski jacket and pants
Thermal tops and bottoms
Best quality you can afford thermal mittens or gloves
Beanie and neck warmer
Multiple pairs of best quality non-ribbed socks
Thermal beanie or hat
Fleece (two, if space allows)

Essential Ski Equipment

This part of the list will depend on just how serious you are about your skiing. If you’re planning on renting the essentials you can skip the obvious ones, but if you’re a die-hard pro with your own gear don’t forget these items or you’ll be lining up at the hire shop with everyone else:

Skis and poles, or snowboard (packed appropriately in a professional ski bag)
Ski boots (or snowboard boots)
Helmet
Sunglasses and goggles
Off piste safety equipment such as probe, shovel, and transceiver
Sturdy rucksack and water bottle
Swiss army knife or similar multi-tool

Essential Technology

The next most important thing to bagging one of those excellent last minute ski holidays is being able to tell all your friends back home just what an awesome time you’re having! If you don’t text, Facebook, tweet, Insta or pin it, did it really happen?

Mobile phone (fully-loaded with apps, photo filters and your favourite music)
Charger, charger, charger!
Camera (if your phone’s just not that smart)
Local sim card
Electrical appliance adaptor
Headphones

Optional (or Essential) Luxuries

If you’re certain you’ve packed all the essentials, budge up a little room in your suitcase and you might be able to squeeze in a few luxuries like:

Travel pillow and slippers (you know you want to)
Boot warmers (although check that your chalet doesn’t already provide one)
Hand warmers
Walkie-talkies for some fun off-piste James Bond action

Use this list as a basis for your packing (which doesn’t take into account personal items like toiletries and clothes, of course) and you’ve got all the essentials covered – even if booking one of the great last minute ski holidays has only left you 48 hours to pack!
