Most inverters are battery powered

Lead-acid gel batteries provide more stable, longer-lasting backup power than standard lead-acid batteries. They have a special cross-gel structure that retains the acid and prevents it from precipitating. They also have more backup power per cycle than standard flooded lead-acid batteries. However, gel batteries are slightly more expensive than standard flooded lead-acid batteries due to advanced internal components. In this case, we can use an external transfer switch to choose between inverter output and generator output. This doesn’t happen very often if the inverter/charger is the right size. Common car batteries, in which the electrodes are grids of metallic lead-containing lead oxide, change in composition during charging and discharging.
