“It should be ensured that publication of forms, codes, manuals, official memorandums, rubber stamps, name plates, information boards, citizen charters, advertisements etc should also be done in both languages,” the order added. After all Hindi is the official language of the country and there is no harm in promoting it.In a recent move to institutionalise the use of Hindi in official work, the Union environment ministry on Friday came up with the guidelines urging its personnel to prepare all orders, publishing codes, manuals etc. in both English and Hindi languages, besides proposing a bilingual ministry website.
“The reason for such a step is simple and clear – English is not a language preferred by everyone while with more use of Hindi in official works we can maximise the reach of ministry’s policies to people in nooks and corners of the country, especially rural,” a senior environment ministry official said, adding, “We are not discarding English.
