Chairman of the SDMC standing committee Shalinder Singh Monti said that the installation of all these lights will be completed by the third week of January next year and the entire area will be illuminated, hence creating a record of switching over to the LED lights in the minimum possible time. “The work on these lights will begin in the first week of January. Installation of solar panels on SDMC’s 40 buildings, including zonal buildings, major schools, christmas decorations outdoor light Manufacturers and hospitals will starts from December 15.According to Mr Monti, 2,500 dark spots, identified by the Delhi police and the SDMC, will get LED lights to provide proper illumination to ensure security.The SDMC has taken a monumental step to foray into an era of solar energy. As per the plan, further 16,000 high-mast lights are being replaced with the white LED lights in the month of December itself.New Delhi: In an attempt to illuminate the entire area under its jurisdiction, including 2,500 dark spots, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is starting the installation of 75,000 energy efficient LED lights from the first week of December. The panels are being installed under a project with a life span of 25 years.Existing lights in parks, numbering around 20,000, will also be replaced with the better illuminative LED lights.

The cost will be recovered within seven years and thereafter the SDMC will get free power for its consumption and even leaving surplus to be sold for inclusion in the grid. The SDMC has fulfilled the promise given to the councillors about installation of 100 LED lights in each ward. The installation of these LED lights will also begin in the month of December 2016. Hence, the SDMC will become the first local body in Delhi to provide illumination in 100 per cent of its area,” he said. The installation of solar panels in these buildings will cost Rs 17 crore. With installation of all 75,000 LED lights, the entire SDMC area will have proper illumination. The installation of the above stated 55,000 LED lights will be completed by December 2016,” added Mr Monti. The backlog of 25,000 poles without lights or with broken lights will also get new LED lights benefiting the residents.  “In all, 11,500 LED lights will be installed in the wards as specified by the councillors.
