Some people prefer to use milled wax cubes

If you are thinking about candle making, but do not have a lot of experience or candle making equipment, an everyday candle making kit may be the perfect choice for you. What does this mean? It simply means that the kit will include everything you need to make a candle. Does it mean it will be everything you need? No! But, it will include almost everything that is needed to get started making candles.

One of the most important things in a candle making kit is wax. Unless you already have your own candle making equipment, you will need to purchase wax from your kit. There are two types of wax cubes: milled and wick. Each kind of wax has its benefits and disadvantages. Some people prefer to use milled wax cubes because they burn slower and more cleanly; however, if you have a busy life, it may not be an option for you. Wicks come in different sizes and thicknesses.

If you are making a candle that you will use once and then store away, you may want to get a thicker wick. If you plan on making several candles at a time, you can just purchase one wick at a time to cut down on the cost. Once you have your wax cubes, you will need some hot wax (or beeswax), and floral wire to tie the wick to the bottom of the cube. You will also need a length of fine wire to poke through the hole in the back of the cube.

You will also need some pipe cleaners (not the type you use to clean pipes!) to poke the holes in the bottom of the candle. Poking the holes with the pipe cleaner will prevent smoke from escaping the candle. When it is all together, scented candles you are ready to make an everyday candle. One caveat to using this method is that you will need to keep the candle as hot as possible. This way the wick will be able to stick to the inside of the candle mold.

Make your candle, wait for it to dry completely, and then light it up! Your candles will usually flicker for a few seconds, but it should burn nicely if you allow it to cool without trying to flip it over. It will take a few tries, so don’t be discouraged! After you learn how to make candles, you could even open up your own candle business!
