According to reports, the fire was allegedly caused due to the explosion of 25-30 gas cylinders in the area. Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar demanded an investigation to find out if the fire was an act of sabotage, as a construction firm wanted the area for redevelopment. The investigation should be carried out against the said firm and people who were helping it,” he said.However, housing minister Prakash Mehta, who made a statement in the Legislative Assembly, said that the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

The injured persons will also be provided financial help from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4,300 depending on the gravity of their injuries.The state government on Wednesday announced that the affected people of the Kandivali fire would be provided aid from the State Disaster Relief Fund, which has been set up to support victims of natural calamities. “People of the area suspect that the firm that had given a redevelopment proposal for Damu Nagar was behind the fire.Mr Mehta also announced that the affected people would be provided help as per the government resolution dated May 13, 2015.A massive fire broke out at slums in Kandivali area two days ago. This will help us in ascertaining the exact affected area and number of hutments,” Mr Mehta said. The door-to-door survey will begin next week and will be completed within 15 days.
